A Lesson in Semiotics (Mimic)
A Lesson in Semiotics (Mimic) repeatedly weaves the command ‘copy me’ into its structure, acknowledging that all language and social behaviour is learned through imitation, while at the same time playing with the medium of print itself as a mimetic process (a medium that produces a series of copies). However, here each individual letter is hand-printed using typographic letters from a letterpress, referencing the inherent fallibility of mimetic processes; that which appears to be an exact copy at first glance, is in fact subject to unique variations upon closer inspection.
